I remember a discussion I had once, on whether or not MMOs are able to feel alive. Imagine a World that changes around you. A World that introduces you, every other day that goes by, to new adventures, new stories to lose yourself into. A brand new World.
Well, such a dream is about to go live tomorrow, along with a list of brand new features to pick from. For me, though, culling something out of that list isn’t an easy task.
Introducing you to “The Razing”, the third chapter of the “Flame and Frost” saga.
We had been aware that the whole idea around “Living Story” came up during December 2012. As the devs have already stated, preparing a worthwhile chapter for the previous two months was rather impossible. Having said that, March’s release is promised to contain an actual glimpse of what the future may hold for this concept. In “Flame and Frost: The Razing” we’ll get to meet Braham and Rox, two youthful individuals each representing their own people. Norn and Charr respectively have been brought upon a disastrous alliance formed by the Dredge and the Flame Legion. New events are hinted to show up in Wayfarer Foothils and Diessa Plateau, while the story of the aforementioned heroes is going to unfold before our very eyes.
WvW enthusiasts will be glad to learn that this patch is bringing along some love for their favorite game type. In fact, it is going to contain an overhaul of the various aspects that actually form this particular part of the game. WvW progression is introduced. Players will get the chance to show their skills in action, while hunting down others in order to unlock new passive WvW-specific abilities. In addition to that, the so far exclusive “Badge of Honor” reward system is getting expanded, by giving all of those that are solely focused on WvW access to even more gear combinations. Last but not least, you better say goodbye to culling. From now on there will be no imaginative enemies to swung your swords upon.
In terms of polishing the currently established systems, ArenaNet does not fail to impress. Guild Missions were released about a month ago, with the players being sceptical on the way they approach the term ‘fun’. Up until now, smaller guilds did not have the resources (influence) to progress with this kind of content, restricting them from actively taking part in whatever it had to offer. With the upcoming patch, a new type of Guild Mission called “Bounty Training” will be released, giving a helping hand to all of those guilds that were in need of influence.
Summing up, let’s not forget the announcement of Leaderboards. The official Guild Wars 2 site will be updated within a one week window (from the launch of the patch) with ladders that equally concern sPvP, WvW and PvE. Achievement tracking, World score and PvP rankings are some of the things that are going to be initially displayed there.
So, tell us what you think. Are you excited about what lies up ahead? What are you looking forward to the most?
