Tilion’s Liebster Award

Liebster

A couple of days ago Paeroka nominated me for the Liebster award. Being someone that does not tend to talk about himself that much, I wasn’t sure enough at first if I should take on the challenge. Then I gave in to the idea though cause… I think it’s fun! I hope you’ll all enjoy getting to know some random things about me and I can’t wait to see the answers my nominees will come up with.

For those that haven’t heard it before, let me explain really quick what the Liebster award is all about. It basically acts an an introduction to some other blogs your readers should definitely check out. You pass the torch to their respective owners to give 11 random facts about themselves and answer 11 questions that you have asked them beforehand. This way they can show the newcomers in their audience who they really are and why they should even bother sticking around with them for the beautiful trip down the word lane.

Straight to the point then.

The 11 random facts about me
  1. I’m weird.
  2. I’m fluent in more than 10 languages out of which only 3 are not programming languages.
  3. I don’t have many friends in real life hence I decided to start blogging. At that point I also joined a Bloggers Anonymous club (This is not true but I thought of improvising).
  4. I’m Greek and equally jobless with more than 2 million other fellow citizens of my country. Please hire me if you are reading this post. I promise to be as kindhearted and ranty as every other Greek Geek.
  5. I love spending time with my online friends. They are what I like to call my true family.
  6. I love traveling and one day I’d like to visit every place around the world, meet with all of my friends up close and witness the Aurora Borealis with my own eyes.
  7. I’m a big fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of what they do with their characters and how cool those end up being after everything they go through.
  8. I call my passion for milk “The Milky Way of Living”.
  9. I’m supposed to get a degree in Computer Engineering at some point but nobody knows when that prophecy will be fulfilled.
  10. I suffer from OCD. Well, “suffer” would not be the best word to describe my symptoms. Let’s just say that it would be really hard for someone to live by me.
  11. I hate it when I start a sentence with “I” but that’s the point of this whole post apparently.
  12. Weird.
The 11 questions Paeroka asked me

1. What was your first gaming rig?

I was born in video games. My dad used to be a game distributor so I grew up playing lots of them. I’ve literally played everything developed in the last three decades. The first time I played one was back in the early 90’s on MS-DOS. I remember building games with my dad when I was young. He had come up with ideas like the multi-game arcades. Loved those things!

2. Do you prefer games based on existing IPs (e.g., Star Wars, or that infamous probably never-to-be Harry Potter MMO) or new IPs?

Hmm… I’d say either? It doesn’t really matter to me. If it’s a well established IP that gets its much-deserved treatment I’d be happy to give it a go. I’ve caught myself trying out new stuff though lately. They feel more fresh, bringing lots of innovative ideas to the industry. It’s really interesting when you see some low-budget indie productions surpassing those that have millions gone into them.

3. If you could resurrect any online game that is no longer (officially) available, which one would it be?

Tough question for me. I’d assume you mean MMOs? If yes, I really don’t know. Haven’t really been into online gaming that much myself as I always despised the subscription gating most MMOs came with. I’m quite sure then that I definitely wasn’t involved with any of those that are considered dead nowadays. Will pass answering this one for the lack of proper judgment.

4. Let’s imagine you’re put into a higher-up developer position of your favourite MMO with enough power to decide: Which one thing would you want to change about the game immediately?

I’ll talk about my areas of expertise. If I had a position in Community Management I’d immediately change the way I interact with the player base. I would be true to my emotions and I would come up with ideas to include the members of the community into the development process. My motive would be the overall, real, happiness in both ends. Other than that it would probably be something related to UI. I love clean and tidy things and I’m more than obsessed with the little details that make things look and work better.

5. Is there a blog post you really would have wished you had written but haven’t (yet)?

Yes, it’s basically in draft but I didn’t want to publish it in the very end. It has to do with community interaction. I hope that one day it will see the light of day.

6. If you feel a writer’s block approaching, what do you do to overcome it?

It’s simple. I don’t do anything at all. It’s the main principle for us here in Dragon Season. We talk about something, when we want to talk about something, when we feel like talking about it. Same thing goes for when I write songs or being creative in general. I’ll only do something when I’m not obliged to do it. This is why some activities are better as they are, simple hobbies. Of course, work is another thing. It has to be done and it will.

7. Blogging and gaming – how do you balance those two?

This feels like a follow-up to the one above. Like I said, I don’t find any necessity in both. If I have some free time I’ll judge accordingly and spend it the way it will make me feel better.

8. What one advice would you give a new blogger?

I’d say they have to enjoy the process, to take it easy and not push themselves towards quantity instead of quality. What should matter the most for them is the purpose of blogging. There’s no need to care about the traffic your blog generates if it’s something you are doing for fun. Just lay back and get those tingly thoughts out of your head. The only place they deserve to be is somewhere on your corner of the internet, patiently waiting for others to judge them.

9. Other than gaming and blogging, what is your favourite pastime?

Oh, I love walking! I wish I could walk the entire world without even the need to catch my breath. It makes me feel refreshed and gives me a purpose in whatever difficulty I stumble across in my life; I just look forward and keep moving. If I had a movie equivalent, I would be Forrest Gump.

10. How much time do you spend in the character creation screen for one character?

Not much. I get bored quite easily by playing around with sliders. Back when I used to play lots of “The Sims” my families used to display different characteristics under the grand umbrella of The Cirque du Freak.

11. If you could actually live in your favourite MMO, which place / town / area would you choose?

It would probably be somewhere close to the peacefulness of the Grove or the loud taverns of the snow-covered Shiverpeaks. Yes, now that I think of it, both sound ideal. Both places describe me perfectly. You can make whatever you want out of that statement.

The 11 questions for those that I’m nominating
  1. What is your most favourite genre in gaming? What makes you be so attached to it?
  2. Would you like to work in the gaming industry? If yes, why and what would be your plans for when you actually have your dream position?
  3. What makes you blog or interact with gaming communities?
  4. What would attract your attention in someone and keep a conversation with them going?
  5. Do you read the comments?
  6. What would be the next place you would like to visit around the world?
  7. What’s your favourite sweet? Do you make it by yourself? In either case provide pics!
  8. Which is your favourite movie and why?
  9. In case of rain, what would you adopt, cats or dogs?
  10. If you could change something in you, what would that be?
  11. Outside of gaming and blogging what’s your favourite pastime activity?

So, I’d like to nominate Ravious from Kill Ten Rats, Lady Verene of Under the Pale Tree, Tasha Darke of Attached to Keyboard and Kate of Relics of Orr. They are cool people that produce high quality stuff and they deserve all of your attention and blah, blah, blah… Let’s get to the point folks!
